Q1:  Can I really store TCR™ Prepregs outside a freezer or cold box?

Yes, our prepregs are designed to be store at ambient room temperature (75°F/21°C) for three (3) months up to one (1) year.

Q2:  Will freezing damage the prepregs?

No, actually freezing them or keeping them cold will help them last even longer.  Care must be taken to warm them to ambient room temperature for 24 hours after removing them from a freezer, or for a few hours after removing from a cold box.  Store and allow them to warm up while still sealed in their bags to minimize water condensation.

Q3:  Do I need to wear gloves, protective eyewear and respirators when working with TCR™ Prepregs?

Gloves (latex, vinyl, rubber, etc) that are impervious to resin are recommended to reduce risk of skin irritation.  Protective eyewear is not necessary for the prepregs themselves, as resin will not leave the prepregs during part manufacturing.  Respirators and other special equipment are not necessary under typical processing conditions.  Personal Protection Equipment policies of your facility should always be practiced.

Q4:  How long are TCR Composites’ lead times?

Normal lead times are four (4) weeks to ship date from date of order receipt for the common prepreg products and four to six (4-6) weeks for others.  Special or exotic fibers or weaves may take longer.  TCR Composites works with suppliers worldwide, so please contact us for specific lead times.

Q5:  At what tension should TCR™ Towpreg be un-spooled?

The optimal tension is 10lbs/4.5kgs but we have found the towpreg can be effectively un-spooled at a wide range of tensions starting at 4lbs/1.8kgs and going as high as 20lbs/9kgs.  TCR Composites has on-site technicians available to assist with optimization of the winding machine at your facility – contact us for assistance.

Q6:  What kinds of solvents can be used to clean rollers and contact points on winding machines?

MEK, acetone, alcohol or any environmentally safe solvent you can find.

Q7:  Does TCR Composites have in-house testing capabilities?

Yes, we are capable of performing many mechanical tests on composite materials and are consistently working to build our database.  Contact us with your specific inquiries.

Q8:  Will TCR Composites assist with winding machine design and setup?

TCR is able to assist with winding machine drawing optimization, fiber delivery path optimization and machine setup optimization.  It is best to contact us early in the planning process however we are able to assist at any point.

Q9:  Is TCR Composites developing additional resin systems for prepregs?

TCR has a full-time Research and Development team on-site including a Chief Chemist, Chemist and Associate Chemist.  We are consistently working on new resin systems to meet a wide range of properties and requirements.  Contact us to discuss our works in progress.
